BJ's To Consumers: Bring It On
Thursday, November 20, 2008
Forbes -- If you're wondering where all the consumers have gone, look no further than BJ’s Wholesale Club.

The warehouse club reported earnings that beat the Street on Wednesday, citing increased store traffic and strength from its gasoline stations. The company also upped its forecast for full-year profit to $2.20 to $2.30 per share, up from its previous guidance of $2.10 to $2.20 per share. Analysts are expecting it to earn $2.22.

Shares of BJ’s Wholesale Club slid slightly, by 0.5%, or 15 cents, to close at $33.42 on Wednesday.

I'm just guessing that Sam's is bigger than BJ's.

Yes, BJ's is like Costco... I get gas at Costco when I am by there but prefer to cross the line to SC (4 miles away) when I am over there and get it even cheaper.

one of the things that the economist suggest is that bulk buying can be a way to help cut the cost of food, etc.

Let me be the first to say that if someone is giving BJ's to the consumers then I'd like to consume about 5 of them right now.

This place sounds slightly like out Real Canadian Superstore... but the Wholesale one... most products are iffy at best.

BJ's is a wholesale club. Like a ghetto Sam's club or Costco.

Our BJ's is awful. Check the dates on any bakery items - they are often past the "best by" date.
Used a credit card for a purchase a few years back and they had a system breach. A few months later I got a letter from my credit card company that they were issuing a new card. BJ's put out a convoluted, lame excuse, then never apologized.

No BJ's around here... Costco and Sam's seem to be busy, but I don't much like shopping and don't have stock in any retailer, so no data here

Maybe we should start having tests on whether we read the whole article or not. Chill dude! This isn't a citizenship class. Who cares if someone is building points. With all the time on your hands maybe you could start a "Forum Nazi Department" and arrest those who don't meet your standards. Sheeeze!

The big gas increase made people be aware of all prices and cut and save where they can. The mortgage crisis (rip off) (imagine giving mortgages to people that have no down payment and want $200-400,000 mortgage) has pset the economy.

Still, it kinda sucks when you consider what the whole economy is having to go through to help fuel this little drop.

I think prices of gasoline, food, vechiles, insurance, taxes, tags, rent, houses for sale, restaunts, movies, utilities should all go down. Hey we should be able to get a 10,000 tax refund back for each person instead of the car dealers getting our tax money.
