What a MISLEADING article! You think you are going to read about the "best" cars, and right up front, they make this HUGE plug for this???
"The Tesla and SpaceX founder released his $109,000 electric Roadster last year, but a new project, the Model S sedan, could be the perfect thing for eco-minded commuters"
I wonder how much kick-back Forbes is getting for THIS!

"Come on, the Chevy Volt? Obviously throwing GM a bone. High price and no range, guess it's for commuting to the train station."
You're kidding us right? The range is infinite. It has a gas engine!

The Honda Civic, which I own, is my choice. It is very efficient on fuel, very well built and reliable, and is a sexy little car that handles well. On top of that it does a very good job of maintaining its resale value. Sounds like a win, win and win to me.

The best car for a commuter is no car at all. If you can work remotely, then do so. Use mass transit when available. A NEW car would be my last choice.

Not everyone has the same requirements, so it is good to see some variety in the list.

I disagree, you can fit 2-3 kids in a prius. It may not be as spacious as an SUV or a full size sedan, but it is very doable. But I guess it comes down to what everyone is willing to sacrifice (your kid's space, money, looks, etc.).

the Highlander is the largest and it's a hybrid. need something where you can get all the kids into and then go to work. you can't cram 2-3 kids into a prius
