High Efficiency Gas Power Plant Breaks Ground in Nj

Courier Post Online -- WEST DEPTFORD — Before the first shovel of ceremonial dirt tossed by dignitaries hit the ground Wednesday, word came that the long-delayed LS Power project will have its production capacity expanded.

The West Deptford Energy Station, scheduled to go online two years from now, is designed as a combined-cycle electric generation facility, fueled by natural gas.

“We’ve commenced activities permitting an expansion of this power plant to add another unit and increase the output by approximately 50 percent, another 400 megawatts,” LS Power CEO Paul Segal said. “Executing the expansion won’t be easy, but were dedicated to giving it our all.”

The plant, on a 35-acre plot of land on the border with Paulsboro off Crown Point Road, will be operated by Segal’s New Jersey-based firm out of Eas

A new efficient power plant is good news. Natural gas in place of coal? Even better.

Good. Out with the old coal plants, in with the new NG plants.

I would have NG power plants then oil fired ones. I also hope Maine gets more NG capacity to heat homes instead of oil.

@joseyski
Just remember, you can always do a reverse sit-in and and un-occupy yourself from the grid to show how much you really hate that which is economical and reliable. Another idea would be to plug your EV into your solar panels and only take it out whenever you have enough of a charge to go somewhere.

But thumbing your nose at that which makes your life so convenient is just plain hypocritical, wouldn't you agree?

Safer and cheaper than nuclear power, cleaner and cheaper than coal---once you account for all the after production cleanup and waste storage costs. For nuclear, essentially, that is 'forever' and perhaps thousands of years after the last watt is generated.

not nearly as dangerous as a nuke plant is right now...

we are within the evac circles of not 1 or 2 or 3 nuke plants... but 4..

I'll take the unnatural gas plant for now if they shutter the nuke plants one by one...

then they'll just have to figure out to do with the roughly 700 metric tons of radioactive waste stored at each plant...

Have you seen "Gasland", because if much of it is true, then gas is no escape from disaster either, we need water even more than energy.

Here is one end user for all that unnatural gas there seems to be so much of...

still it's better than another nuke or coal plant by a mile....
