Solar tower will power Las Vegas at night

CNET -- SolarReserve has completed the central point of a solar project that uses molten salt storage to deliver power to the grid well after the sun has gone down.

The startup company today said it has completed the 540-foot tower of the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project near Tonopah, Nev., which is expected to start delivering 110 megawatts by the end of 2013. When it comes online, it's projected to have 10 hours of storage, the longest full-load storage capacity for a solar plant.

Adding storage turns solar into a continuous power source and allows project developers to earn more money for their electricity. As a result, solar projects that use heat to make electricity have added molten salt storage to their facilities.

NOW, now Mandrake from Alabama?

You know that spreading misinformation and nonsense is their "thing".
When you bring facts and information to the table? They run away to troll another spot.
They are so threatened by the free energy refills that Mother Nature offers. Wonder why?

The Tonopah Solar company in Harry Reid's Nevada is getting a $737 million loan from Obama's DOE.

The project will produce a 110 megawatt power system and employ 45 permanent workers.

That's costing us just $16 million per job.

One of the investment partners in this endeavor is Pacific Corporate Group (PCG). The PCG executive director is Ron Pelosi, who is the brother to Nancy's husband.

Just move along folks. Nuthin' goin' on here.

Interesting project. Thanks for sharing PhilMils.
The more projects like this? the less stress on our aging electrical grid.

Perfect for Vegas--and perhaps an interesting little tourist draw in its own right once you get tired of the gambling and usual draws.

That sounds like a great idea - especially for a place like Vegas. The ligths can stay on without wasting energy that can be better utilized elsewhere.
